Reflections from the Damp and Mould Seminar

We had a brilliant day at the damp and mould seminar, with great speakers, strong conversations and plenty of questions at our stand throughout the day.

Our Patrick’s presentation on damp, mould, indoor air quality and environmental data was really well received. One of the key points he covered was the limitation of relying only on a snapshot inspection.

A visit to a property is important, but it only shows what is happening at that moment. Damp and mould risk can change throughout the day depending on heating, ventilation, humidity, occupancy, building design and how the home is being used.

That is where data can add real value.

Continuous monitoring helps show patterns over time - when humidity rises, whether temperatures are consistently low, whether CO₂ suggests poor ventilation, and whether conditions improve after action has been taken.

There were also some excellent discussions around the changing legal climate, tenant complaints, Awaab’s Law, Scotland’s incoming damp and mould duties, and the growing role of AI in helping tenants raise more detailed complaints using medical, legal and technical language.

The message from the day was clear: housing providers need to act quickly, but they also need evidence to support the action they take.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by, asked questions and shared their experiences. It was a great day for the team and a strong reminder of why this work matters: safer, healthier homes for tenants.
