Understanding Awaab’s Law and the Urgent Need for Action

Tackling Damp and Mould Risks in Line with Awaab’s Law

Awaab’s Law is a major step forward in making homes safer. It was introduced following the tragic death of two-year-old Awaab Ishak, who died due to prolonged exposure to mould in his home - a tragedy no family should ever have to endure.

The new law introduces legal timeframes for landlords to act. Early guidance suggests this will include 14 days to investigate and 7 days to begin repairs where there is a risk to health. In Scotland, a new consultation is now underway to bring in similar protections - so housing providers across the UK must be ready.

“Awaab’s Law is a vital step forward. We’re here to support housing providers in acting quickly - so no tenant is left facing health risks in their home.”
